Two Iranian Su-25 fighter jets fired on an unarmed U.S. Air Force Predator drone in the Persian Gulf on November 1, the Pentagon disclosed on Thursday.
The incident, reported first by CNN, raised fresh concerns within the Obama administration about Iranian military aggression in crucial Gulf oil shipping lanes.
The drone was on routine maritime surveillance in international airspace east of Kuwait, 16 miles off the coast of Iran, U.S. officials said. The Predator was not hit.

Due to President Obama being re-elected, Carpentersville man [who demands anonymity] has bought a round of beer for all the patrons at a local tavern.
This gentleman says that he’ll now be able to get health insurance without being denied for a pre-existing condition.
“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.
Defense contractor Lockheed Martin heeded a request from the White House today — one with political overtones — and announced it will not issue layoff notices to thousands of employees just days before the November presidential election.
Lockheed, one of the biggest employers in the key battleground state of Virginia, previously warned it would have to issue notices to employees, required by law, due to looming defense cuts set to begin to take effect after Jan. 2 because of the failure of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction — the so-called Super-committee, which was created to find a way to cut $1.5 trillion from the federal deficit over the next decade.
Such massive layoffs could have threatened Obama’s standing in the state he won in 2008 and is hoping to carry again this November.
Boeing announced a major restructuring of its defense division on Wednesday that will cut 30 percent of management jobs from 2010 levels, close facilities in California and consolidate several business units to cut costs.
The company [BA 70.81 0.70 (+1%) ] told employees about the changes on Wednesday, in a memo obtained by Reuters and confirmed by Boeing.
Boeing, the Pentagon’s second-largest supplier, said the changes were the latest step in an affordability drive that has already reduced the company’s costs by $2.2 billion since 2010, according to the memo.
Wouldn’t you think, after the Streamwood police explained the law and specifically warned Noland about removing Tim Elenz signs, he would’ve gotten the message? But no! The Senator seems to be an exceptionally slow learner.
Just yesterday, an Elgin resident caught the Senator himself placing Cary Collins and Joe Walsh signs in the back of his beat up old truck. When the resident asked him for an explanation, Noland claimed he was performing a public service by removing trash from the right-of-way.
So now the always civic minded Noland is helping out the garbage collectors? When does this exemplary public official find the time to sleep?
Senator Noland knows damn well, under the new state law, you cannot touch another candidate’s signs for any reason. Even if they are illegally placed, you have to call that campaign and have them come out and remove it.
The really sad thing is, the Senator doesn’t seem to understand you’re supposed to have your lackeys steal signs under the cover of darkness – you’re not supposed to do it yourself in broad daylight.
Not only that, but three separate Elgin residents have complained about Noland signs magically appearing on their front lawns. I’m guessing the yard sign fairy is responsible.
This guy is a real piece of work!
